My very first friend lives 5,258 miles away. But there was a time when she lived just down the street; when we would run through town in our bathing suits, and had our own restaurant in her front yard, which served a vegetarian menu. In today's world, I suppose our ice-plant salad would be considered chic gastronomy.

And here we are, nearly forty years later, sharing life through a wire that wraps a world 5,258 miles wide. I wish I could crawl through that wire and share a glass of apple wine with her, that I could somehow step through the webcam for lunch.

Today is a word for my very first friend. The day we met was the first day of kindergarten, and here she is in a classroom all her own, describing her love for education at the primary level. She is inspiring.

After forty years, Debbie, I still want to be your friend. xo

Oh wow Allison, how awesome for you two to still be friends. That doesn't happen too often, most people lose track of their first friendships.

My closest friend is one from h.s. and we still manage to talk at least once a week despite living in different parts of the country. A couple of other friends, I talk to or see far less frequently but we always pick up as if we had last talked an hour or day ago. It's wonderful as is you friendship!

Thanks for the sunny hugs Allison!

Sending them right back to you.

Decided to spend the afternoon knitting (am doing a tea cosy)
will probably take me forever
but sure I will try!!!

Is your daughter enjoying her lovely handwarmers?

It is wet and miserable here today but warm indoors!

Happy October x

Oh Alli! Look at your sweet face in that picture! Its just how I remember my first friend.

I am honored that you call me friend. You are my chosen sister, for life. I would never be the person I am today without you. Remember when we were so convinced that the 2 'Nilla wafers and a Dixie cup of juice from your babysitter was most certainly "child abuse" so we went AWOL back to my house for better snacks and vindication? Or did I go alone and bring snacks back to you? Even though the details of our adventures get fuzzy, the clarity of my love for you is always strong. The memories of my happy childhood ALWAYS include you!

I love you and thank God for you daily!
Debbie
